Medicinal uses of CBD

The benefits of CBD and other associated chemicals found in the Hemp plant are becoming more and more prevalent. As more and more exponents of the use of CBD as a symptom as well as cause treatment come forward, the more we are finding governments and institutions standing up and listening to the privately driven research.

Extended studies within cancer research have uncovered a multitude of benefits ranging from effective pain management and improving comfort levels of patients undergoing highly invasive treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation all the way to prevention of nausea related symptoms. Through these tests and trials the inadvertent discovery of CBD and THC’s anticancer properties has been uncovered and provides an exciting new tool with which scientists are arming themselves to continue the fight against cancer.

Whilst in no way limited to cancer, within the medical field the interest and money involved is making this the most progressive field of enhanced research and thus discovery of the link between these incredible chemicals and their effects on the human body.

CBD Inhibits Cancer Cell Growth

One new and exciting CBD benefit is its use as an antitumoral. Studies have shown that CBD inhibits certain functions within the body and prevents cancer cells from spreading. Other evidence suggests that CBD may interfere with cancer cell growth and even induce tumor cell death. Though these studies have only been conducted in mice and rats, the results are promising enough that human studies can’t (and probably shouldn’t) be far off.

CBD is currently being used to fight diseases that were previously thought untreatable.

Chief amongst those diseases are:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Psychosis
  • Epileptic disorders
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Cancer
  • Osteoporosis
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Lupus
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Chronic and acute pain
  • Diabetes
  • Neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s)

CBD Relieves Pain And Reduces Swelling

Another neural receptor that experiences CBD benefits is the vanilloid receptor. The vanilloid receptors regulate pain perception and bodily inflammation. As such, when CBD interacts with the vanilloid receptors, pain and inflammation are decreased significantly. Because of its painreducing effects, CBD may be a viable treatment for disorders like fibromyalgia.

One study reported that of the 28 participants who were given CBD as opposed to more traditional methods, all 28 reported a significant reduction in their symptoms and pain. This is in contrast to the other 28 participants who were giving the traditional methods. Those latter 28 didn’t report much improvement.
