The Benefits of CBD and Exercise

The health benefits of exercise are no secret. Research finds regular exercise can help improve:

  • Mood
  • Metabolism
  • Muscle and bone strength
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep
  • Brain health, memory, and focus
  • Pain
  • Libido

If exercise itself can recharge our minds and increase productivity, what does using CBD with exercise look like?

Cannabinoids and Exercise

Studies show endorphins are too large to pass the blood-brain barrier right away. So while endorphins influence the famous “runner’s high”, they likely don’t have direct effects on the brain. Instead, they work within the muscles and help suppress pain.

Endocannabinoids are also secreted during exercise. These are cannabinoids our bodies produce on their own (endo = within). Research from the University of Heidelberg found that endocannabinoids play a much larger role in the “runner’s high” with more direct effects on the brain. It suggests our bodies release endocannabinoids to desensitize physical activity, which is a basic survival function.

CBD for Muscle Recovery

This means the phytocannabinoid CBD (phyto = plant) is a favorite for many when recovering from workouts.

Through its interaction with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), it targets muscle tension, pain perception, and inflammation. This could be so helpful for muscle, joint, or bone pain relief!

After the body’s consistent adrenaline pumping, studies show it can also help us sync into our parasympathetic nervous system, known as “rest or digest”.

Adrenaline provides us energy, protection, and mental stimulation. The rest afterwards provides our body the time to integrate the work and fully recover. Sometimes people struggle to rest, whether due to anxiety, pain, or other conditions.

Both exercise and rest are essential, positively influencing brain health.

Considering how the ECS interacts with the body, CBD is regularly used for both. Common reasons people use CBD before, during, or after workouts are:

  • To ease and prevent muscle, joint, bone pain or stiffness
  • Mood boost
  • Mental focus
  • Anxiety relief
  • To encourage recovery and healing
  • To prevent injury

The ECS regulates our body’s homeostasis (our inner physiological balance). This helps us better prepare for and react to stress.

While exercise isn’t necessarily always stressful, it does put stress on the body, in order to build strength. The most effective exercise varies for each body.

Taking our beloved cannabinoid along for the journey seems well worth it!

    whether it is Sleep issue, or it is anxiety, whether it is Pain whether it is depression, CBD is such a mesmerizing thing on earth.
