Your dog won’t eat and constantly seems to be in pain or discomfort and that causes you discomfort and pain of your own. Sure, your dog is old and that explains most of its daily struggles, but there must be a way to alleviate these and give him/her a more comfortable time as it reaches the twilight of its life. Vet bills can become unmanageable, especially with the frequency of visits and lack of viable solutions. CBD Oil’s benefits are numerous and are becoming a viable option in the mainstream market for human and animal pain management alike.

Reduces anxiety

Not only small dogs like chihuahuas get anxious. All dogs are prone to it, and there needs to be a solution to that common problem. Anxiety can spike for dogs and other pets when they are separated from their owners or when they are in anxiety-inducing situations around other unfamiliar animals. To avoid the unpleasant resulting behaviours of this such as destructive chewing, CBD oil can be used a relaxing stimulant.

Aids in chronic pain relief including arthritis

Arthritis is the inflammation of joints that cause aches, pains and other degenerative diseases. Even dogs aren’t exempt from it. Pain relief is one of CBD Oil’s primary benefits and as such, the product can drastically reduce chronic pain and arthritis in pets. It also soothes and treats inflammation that prevents healing.

Boosts appetite

One of the most frustrating issues for pet owners can be a loss of appetite in their dogs and cats, simply because it’s often impossible to isolate the root cause of appetite loss. CBD is known to alleviate nausea, and this is one of the most common causes of a lack of appetite in humans and pets.

Treats seizures and epilepsy

CBD Oil can reduce the frequency of seizures in small pets, and even stop them altogether.

Fights cancer and eases its symptoms

Chronic pain, nausea and loss of appetite are some of the unpleasant side effects of cancer in pets. CBD Oil can help alleviate all of these, but it’s also known to have cancer-fighting properties.

They say that you can’t treat an old dog new tricks, but you can certainly make it feel like a puppy again with the correct CBD oil treatment.

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States, affecting over 50 million Americans. The two most common types of arthritis are:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA): An autoimmune disease in which a person’s immune system attacks their joints, causing inflammation. RA commonly affects the hands and feet and leads to painful, swollen, and stiff joints.
  • Osteoarthritis (OA): A degenerative disease that affects joint cartilage and bones, causing pain and stiffness. It often affects the hip, knee, and thumb joints.

Some studies on animals suggest that CBD could help to treat arthritis and relieve the associated inflammatory pain:

  • 2011 study found that CBD helped to reduce inflammatory pain in rats by affecting the way that pain receptors respond to stimuli.
  • 2014 review of the existing body of research on animals concluded that CBD may be an effective treatment for OA.
  • 2016 study found that the topical application of CBD had the potential to relieve pain and inflammation associated with arthritis.
  • 2017 study found that CBD might be a safe and useful treatment for OA joint pain.

However, to date, there a lack of scientific evidence to prove conclusively that CBD is an effective arthritis treatment for humans.

2006 study found that a cannabis-based mouth spray called Sativex helped to relieve arthritis pain. However, the cannabis plant extracts that the company use to make the spray contain both CBD and THC.

While findings so far have been encouraging, more research is necessary to confirm that CBD oil is an effective treatment for arthritis pain.

CBD oil and chronic pain

CBD may help manage chronic pain by affecting the brain’s response to pain signals.

Cannabinoids, such as CBD, attach themselves to specialized receptors in a person’s brain and immune system.

One of these receptors, called a CB2 receptor, plays a role in the immune system by managing pain and inflammation.

Researchers believe that when CBD enters a person’s body, it may attach to CB2 receptors. Alternatively, it may cause the body to produce natural cannabinoids that attach to the CB2 receptors.

Either way, scientists think CBD affects the way that these receptors respond to the signals that they receive, possibly helping reduce inflammation and pain.

2008 review of research into CBD and its possible mechanism of action suggested that CBD could play a role in chronic pain management.

Are you a concerned parent? Is your child struggling at school? Have you considered that it may in fact be anxiety that they are struggling with?

Anxiety is a major problem within society and whilst it remains a relatively new or unresolved topic for most of us in South Africa the statistics coming out of the US are staggering. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the US, impacting an estimated one in eight children.

Left untreated, childhood anxiety can result in poor school performance, poor social functioning, and even substance abuse. None of this is unique to the US, all you have to do is speak to teachers in our communities to understand that the very same problems are being faced here in South Africa.

There are a number of symptoms consistent with anxiety disorders that can interfere with ones learning. Studies have found that anxious individuals find it difficult to avoid distractions and require more time to turn their attention from one task to the next.In fact, anxious children and adolescents are often considered “inattentive” because they appear off-task within the classroom setting. A worried brain is a distracted brain.

Keep an eye out for these symptoms of anxiety that can negatively affect your child’s ability to learn:

  • Difficulty focusing or mind going blank
  • Fatigue from sleep disturbance
  • Feeling restless or on edge
  • Irritability (sometimes referred to as “acting out”)
  • Fear of talking in front of a group
  • Fear of scrutiny or judgment
  • Difficulty separating from care givers
  • Avoidance behaviors
  • Tantrums or meltdowns
  • Panic attacks
  • Excessive worry.

In many cases anxiety disorders are generally treated with psychotherapy, medication (such as Ritalin), or a combination of the two, many people opt to forgo these standard approaches and self-treat with products like CBD oil.

We’re not telling you that this is a miracle cure, even if we believed that whole-heartedly we wouldn’t be allowed to so instead we want you to know a little more about how it works so that you can make that decision yourself.
How does CBD work and why is OK for kids? What CBD does do is that it feeds your cannabinoid system. Your cannabinoid system is responsible for many things such as regulating your mood – things such as anxiety, depression, regulating your sleeping patterns, regulating pain sensations, balancing out your metabolism and enhancing your immune system and the piece that is alwasy worth repeating about CBD is that it is poly-pharmacological which means that it effects all of these pathways at the same time.

We recently read a survey published in 2018, which showed that almost 62 percent of cannabidiol users reported that they used CBD to treat a medical condition, with the top three conditions being pain, anxiety, and depression which is great news for parents whose children suffer from these increasingly common symptoms.

As with most “holistic” remedies, much of the research is still being done around exactly why this is the case. Research suggests that in addition to impacting the endocannabinoid system, cannabidiol may influence receptors involved in the modulation of serotonin (a chemical messenger thought to play a role in anxiety regulation).

We for one, are completely sold on the benefits from taking CBD oil daily but its up to you to decide if it works for you!
