Like humans, dogs and cats are often afflicted by mood and behavioural issues as a result of stress and anxiety.
These feelings will often manifest as panting, pacing, whining or whimpering, trembling, fidgeting, barking, hyperactivity, skittishness or aggression in animals.
Anxiety and stress in animals can be triggered by any manner of things – commonly including loud noises, overly stimulating environments, other animals, phobias (such as a trip to the groomer), travel, separation issues… the list goes on and on.
So with any number of factors in play that could be contributing to their distress, and without them being able to communicate any of these to their owners, it is great to have CBD on hand to help save the day.
In the same way that many humans are turning to CBD to find relief from the daily anxiety they face, pets too can benefit from the calming and soothing effects of the non-intoxicating cannabis compound.
In both our two-legged bodies and those of our four-legged furry friends, CBD interacts with a network of receptors in the body called the endocannabinoid (ECS) system.
The role of the ECS is to restore balance to the body’s physiological functions and processes, one of which is the regulation of the nervous system – which helps to moderate our stress responses.
CBD is also though to imitate a type of serotonin (the chemical believed to be linked to happiness and wellbeing) receptor in the brain, in the same way that anti-depressants do.
By increasing serotonin in their brains, CBD can help to provide an improved mood and significantly less day-to-day anxiety and fear in pets.
